DCP FAQ

What is a DCP?

A Digital Cinema Package is a standard file format, which will work in any theater. 2K DCPs are standard while 4K DCPs are better for larger format screens.

Why do I need a DCP?

A DCP ensures that your film will fill the theater screen and play at the correct volume out of the correct speakers without buffering. It allows theaters to program your film into their server.

Why are DCPs expensive?

Professional DCP companies are expensive because they will charge you the same way that they would a film studio and then keep charging you to host your film on their server. As an independent filmmaker, I can provide the same quality for much less and do not believe in gatekeeping. My competition charges 2-5 times more than I do, but I have kept my rates reasonable so that everyone can have a voice. I also export DCPs at a manageable file size so that you can host and send your own DCP online easily!

Why are DCPs important?

I carefully quality check and convert your film's picture, color, and audio to the optimal settings. I am your last line of defense against technical errors and a bad screening!

What errors can my film have?

Export glitches, pixilation, pillarboxing or letterboxing (black bars), loud or unbalanced audio, inaudible dialogue, wrong track order, low subtitles, etc. I actively look for red flags at every stage of the process.

How are problems solved?

If I see an issue, I will make any adjustments necessary. For larger issues, I will notify you and we can discuss fast solutions! As an editor, I even have the ability to add, remove, or change things if you need any kind of work done. This includes color correction, dialogue leveling, sound mixing and editing, title cards, video re-exports, and pretty much anything else you need!

What are your business hours?

If I am available, I will usually respond within 24 hours, 24/7. If it is urgent, please let me know so I can prioritize your order. I check my email frequently and have no problems meeting your deadline. If you order through DCP companies, you may find it hard to contact them or get direct answers, especially during non-business hours. I will always respond as soon as I can!

Why am I different from other DCP providers?

I've been an independent writer, director, and editor since 2009 and I genuinely care about you and your vision. I want your film to play perfectly, just as I would my own films. I am honored to be entrusted with your film and will make 100% sure that you have a successful screening. Plus, I love supporting artists and being able to help uplift important stories and voices! I can say with confidence that my services are fast, low-cost, and most importantly, perfected to make sure your film shines the brightest it can be!

Mission Statement

After I graduated from California State University, Long Beach Film School in 2013, I needed to send my films to festivals. What I discovered was a distribution industry that was completely overpriced for independent filmmakers. So in 2014, I began my Blu-Ray and later, DCP business to level the playing field so everyone can afford to watch their films up on the big screen!

As an independent owner, I meticulously check every film (picture, sound, aspect ratio, frame rate, etc.) and thoroughly test each export to ensure that your film plays at the highest quality. If for any reason a problem should arise, I will do everything in my power to make it right or your money back guaranteed. My personal motto: I never make a promise that I can't keep.

In addition, I've made a very conscious effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle every package and label used for my products and shipping. While big companies throw lots of materials away, my process has been optimized to be as waste-free as possible so I can pass the savings on to you! From one filmmaker to another, thank you for entrusting me with your creation - Josie
